Our purpose is to support the use of geographical epidemiology, GIS and spatial analysis techniques in public health research and practice. The Unit was established in 1999 with a grant from the Public Health Development Fund.
The Unit's primary research interests lie in:
Geographical and environmental epidemiology
Geographical variations in health and healthcare
GIS and spatial analysis techniques
Public health practice
In addition to our research interests a key purpose of the Unit is to promote and support the use of GIS (Geographical Information Systems and Science) in public health practice. As part of this role we have productive working relationships with a number of partners from within the academic and NHS sectors.
